WWII re-purposing Ardennes style! This German helmet was made into an oil funnel for vehicles. A hole was punched and a pipe was placed, the holes in the sides for helmet liner pins were plugged by bullets. This was found recently by a picker/collector in the Bastogne area. We obtained this during one of our visit's to Belgium. A very interesting use of the materials that were available. During German occupation the Belgians had very little access to anything necessary for running their farms and businesses. In the years following the war rebuilding was the number one priority so raw materials were in short supply. The crafty citizens would come up with many ingenues innovations like this funnel. An interesting artifact that had two very different purposes.
